Education & Nutrition in Ethiopia

Picture
In many parts of the world, poverty is a way of life for entire communities. The cycle of poverty is hard to overcome, but one of the key ways to break the cycle is through education. However, the benefit of free public education is not available all parts of the world.

In Ethiopia, IHH has joined in partnership with Compassion Family International (CFI), an native Ethiopian charity that focuses on helping children in the name of Christ. CFI operates two drop-in centers in Addis Ababa.

Unlike traditional schools, the drop-in centers are not run by the government. For the children served by these schools, they cannot typically afford to attend the public schools.

Also, these children's parents typically work very long and hard days, leaving the children without adequate care between the time that the public schools are over and the children's parents return home from working.

CFI's solution to helping these children is to create an extended school day, where the children are taught throughout the day and cared for until their parents return to them in the evening. Children in Lafto

CFI programs not only teach the children their basic skills, but they teach the children about Christ through the Bible. Each child grows up with a love of the Lord and a right perspective of hope for his future and the plans God has for his life.

Knowing the importance of nutrition for these children, CFI provides two meals each day for the children. In many cases, these meals are all that the children would receive in the day. Without the nutrition efforts of CFI, these children would not receive adequate nutrition, as they come from severely impoverished areas.

Twice a week, the children's families are invited to fellowship at the center to be fed and to learn for themselves of God's love and redemption.

Peter and Elizabeth Abera, founders of CFI have operated drop-in centers in Kechene and the Lafto area of Addis Ababa to reach out to children in that area. At Lafto, CFI is also training single mothers a trade so that they can provide a stable source of income for their families.

If you wish to contact Peter and Elizabeth directly to learn of his ministry in Ethiopia, please email them at: peterabera@yahoo.com or call at (251) 911-415294.

Education & Nutrition in Ghana

Picture
In Ghana, public education is provided for free, but yet many children are unable to attend even primary school due to their inability to pay for uniforms, books or school fees.

IHH is helping to ensure that 11 of these children remain in school, including a family of five orphaned siblings.

We are currently seeking donations toward meeting the next semester's expenses for these children, and we hope to expand this program to provide the same important support for additional children.

As with our other charitable projects, IHH works with the local church so that the children not only receive the benefit of the education, but they see the church showing God's love to them by giving them hope through their education. The church also ministers to these children, who are often not only in need of financial assistance, but also emotional support and Christ's witness.

The cost of sponsoring a child's education is $500-$1,200 per year, depending on the grade level of the child. IHH seeks your help in continuing to provide this benefit for children.

You can be part of IHH's ministry  to help the create opportunities for stability and to end the cycle of poverty for the children of Ghana. Go to the Donate page to make a contribution to this ministry.
